Adventurers on a bid to raise funds for PMB centre

2014-04-23 00:00

SOUTH African adventurers will embark on a journey in the wee hours of tomorrow morning, in an effort to raise funds to build a community centre in Pietermaritzburg.

Eight people in two teams will race to various locations in the country — summitting mountains while travelling in branded vehicles to each destination.

The adventure begins in Qwa-Qwa at 1 am tomorrow, with a summit to the top of the Namahadi mountain.

The team will then travel to Mafadi in the central Drakensberg, before travelling nearly eight hours to KwaDuma, north of Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.

On the morning of day three, the team will drive over 10 hours to reach Murch Point near Nieu-Bethesda, before driving seven hours to Seweweekspoort Peak in the Cape. From here they will hit the road, driving nearly 16 hours to reach Nooitgedacht-West near Hekpoort in North West province. The last leg of the race will see the team take on Iron Crown in Limpopo, De Berg in Mpumalanga, to finish off at Toringkop in the south of Johannesburg.

The first team consists of renowned mountaineer Sean Disney, outdoor enthusiasts Kobus Bresler and Rene Winter, and 15-year-old Jordan Williams, who is set to become the youngest South African to complete the challenge. The second team consists of Irene Rugheimer of Team Zodwa, Kim Williams, Sane Nkabinde and South Africa’s adventure girl, Pamela Buckle.
