Advocate’s murder: suspect held

2012-09-21 00:00

THE man suspected of murdering Pietermaritzburg advocate Susanna le Roux was arrested yesterday as a result of The Witness publishing his photograph on Wednesday.

After receiving a tip-off, police went to Northdale Hospital yesterday morning where the man (32) was found and arrested.

Following the arrest, police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said the Pietermaritzburg Detective Task Team then went to secondhand dealers around the city where most of the stolen furniture and goods were recovered.

Jeevan said Le Roux’s Mercedes Benz C180, which was also stolen, was handed back to the police after it had been sold.

The man is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court today, said Jeevan.

Le Roux’s son Eduard le Roux told The Witness that the arrest of the suspect was only the beginning and that they will have to “see how the case evolves”.

“The police are doing very well, and they must keep on going,” he said.

Le Roux was found dead at her Connaught Road home after her concerned domestic worker, Goodness Mathe, alerted police when she couldn’t gain entry into the house.

Le Roux had been beaten and it was not clear how long she had been dead.
