Africa Model 2010: pageant to show what modelling is all about

2010-10-13 00:00

ASPIRING models on the South Coast will once again be given the opportunity to display their talents when the annual Africa Model 2010 competition takes place at Umdlalo Lodge in Umtentweni on Saturday night.

It will be the second time that the event, which is organised by The Modelling and Make Up Academy, has been held.

Last year saw the event attract 37 entrants across all categories and event organiser and owner of The Modelling and Make Up Academy, Stacey Upfold, is hoping for an even better turnout this year.

“Last year was very successful and this year I am hoping to get over 50 entrants,” she said.

“The most important thing is that the guys and girls have a good time.”

The event is unique in that it is separated into seven categories; four for the female participants and three for the males. Female age categories are 5 – 8; 9 – 11; 12 – 15 and 16+ years old. Male categories are 5 – 10; 11 – 14 and 15+ years old.

While catering for participants of all ages, the event is not open to all, and those who would like to take part must first attend an audition with Upfold.

Finalists will be required to bring an outfit of the “traditional” theme to the event which they will model on the 10-metre-long catwalk.

Part of the competition will include the entrants being interviewed by the judges, but this will happen in a private room and not on the catwalk.

Everybody who participates in the event will be given a complimentary gift pack and the competition winners will be rewarded with professional photo shoots to help them build a professional modelling portfolio.

Upfold added that anyone who is interested in modelling would benefit from participating in Saturday’s competition.

“If people don’t really know what modelling is about, but they are interested in it then being a part of Saturday’s competition will really help them gain a better understanding of what it is all about,” she said.

Anyone who would like to participate in the Africa Model 2010 competition must contact Upfold on 074 188 3272 before 5 pm on Friday.
