Aids education contest to ‘energise’ youth

2010-12-02 00:00

THE Youth of Choice organisation (YOC) will host a dance competition at the Winston Churchill Theatre on Saturday as an interactive way to educate young people about HIV and Aids.

Jabulani Myeza, founder of Youth of Choice, says the dance forms part of their Reach and Teach campaign.

As part of World Aids Day commemorative events, YOC has come up with an innovative concept to increase HIV prevention through an interactive dance competition that will feature local hip-hop dance crews.

They will use the emotional power of music and dance to energise, educate and promote safer lifestyle choices.

“Our approach is to first engage and inspire before trying to educate … We strongly believe that, before providing prevention information in an effective way, the audience needs to be inspired in some way to want to engage with that information,” said Myeza.

The event will begin a 10 am and the groups interested in participating in the event can contact Cecil on 078 773 4513.
