Aids talk for Msunduzi employees

2007-12-01 00:00

“WE are all sexual beings, but need to be in control of our actions.”

This was the message given in a packed Winston Theatre yesterday during the municipality’s HIV/Aids programme attended by all municipal staff members.

Professor Norman Nyazema from the University of Limpopo candidly told staff that HIV is a difficult virus to transmit, meaning that it is transmitted once individuals make a choice to sleep with another individual, regardless of their status.

He said that he spoke from a male perspective, saying that men tend to have a fixed mind when it comes to their sexual desires, thereby clouding their judgment.

Msunduzi Mayor Zanele Hlatshwayo and her HIV/Aids task team have pledged to work as a team to ensure the health of staff at the municipality.

The mayor told staff to report any staff member who discriminates against another based on their HIV status.

Hanneline Anthony, who is HIV positive, gave a testimony of her experiences with living with the virus and how she has managed to keep a positive outlook on life.
