Airport: Indiza contract renewed

2010-02-26 00:00

SENSE prevailed at yesterday’s sitting of the executive committee (Exco) when a decision was taken to renew Indiza’s airport management contract for a year.

This follows a report carried by The Witness yesterday, which stated that the future of Oribi Airport was hanging in the balance after the municipality’s failure to renew Indiza’s contract.

The contract was due to expire at midnight this Sunday.

Msunduzi Mayor Zanele Hlatshwayo said she recently had a meeting with the Economic Development MEC, who said he is considering removing the responsibility of overseeing airports from municipalities.

DA councillor Bill Lambert said this was a good call on the MEC’s part.

Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business CEO Andrew Layman welcomed the extension of the contract.

Indiza’s new contract will be valid from March 1 to February 28 next year.
