All-new format for Miss SA pageant

VIEWERS will get to meet the 2011 Miss South Africa pageant contestants in an all-new format this year.

DSTV channel Mzansi Magic and Sun International have transformed the pageant into a a one-hour reality series called The Road to Miss SA, which will be broadcast on Mzansi Magic channel 107 from October 9 at 5.30 pm.

The semi-finalists are in for the ride of their lives as their progress is charted over the coming months during the workshops at the Sun City resort and in the interview sessions with the judges.

The judges include Estcourt’s Sonia Raciti-Oshry, a former Miss South Africa.

The reality show will start nine weeks before the finals.

Said Mzansi Magic commissioning editor Vanessa Jansen, “This will give viewers the opportunity to get to know the finalists and have a clearer sense of who their favourites are as they head towards the finals.”

The show features an elimination stage in which the semi-finalists will be given tasks to complete during the workshops and will be judged accordingly.

By the end of the workshops only 16 women will remain and the 12 finalists will only be named a week before the pageant, which will be held in the Superbowl at Sun City on December 11.

A spokesperson for Sun International, Londi Sibisi, said viewer participation will be minimal as this is the first year the pageant will be made into a reality show. Competitions will be held at a later stage.
