WITH a background in nursing and education, Kath Defilippi has been involved in the provision of palliative care since 1983, when she started the South Coast Hospice (SCH) home care programme in rural KwaZulu-Natal. She still lives on the South Coast and is extremely happy here.

The Witness asked her.

South Coast Mall or Shelly Centre and why?

I use both malls. I enjoy the Woolworths food at Shelly Centre and for everything else I prefer South Coast Mall.

Who would you like to meet and why?

Rafael Nadal; he is such a talented athlete and seems to be a very nice, good person.

Which is the best place to be in the South Coast?

At home — Southport.

What is your favourite dish?

What has been your proudest moment?

When I was given a lifetime achievement award by the International Journal of Palliative Nursing.

What do you love doing during your spare time?

I enjoy gardening and I love watching sport.

Which song best describes you?

Make me a channel of your peace — it’s a hymn.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

I enjoy the growth and development I see in others and other organisations.

If you could change one thing about the South Coast, what would it be?

I would move it closer to the airport.

What is your secret talent?

Being able not to be overwhelmed by doing one thing at a time.
