Alleged fraud: Cops seek woman’s help

2012-11-01 00:00

POLICE are appealing for information regarding the whereabouts of Winnie Zondo whom they believe will help them solve two fraud cases.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said fraudulent incidents occurred in 2007 and on January 19 this year in the Pietermaritzburg CBD.

“It is alleged that in 2007 a victim had his identity document and cash stolen during a theft in Wartburg.

“He subsequently applied for a new identification document and on collection at the Department of Home Affairs, officials informed him that their records showed he had passed away.

“Further investigations established that loans were acquired at various financial institutions in the CBD in the victim’s name.

“It was established that the suspects also allegedly took out insurance in the victim’s name and thereafter declared him deceased,” said Jeevan.

Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of the this person can contact the Branch Commander of SAPS Pietermaritzburg Detective Services, Lieutenant Colonel Narash Nandhlal on 033 845 2731 or 079 696 3712.

Any witness who wishes to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stop on the toll free number 08600 10111.
