Amanzimtoti: tippers collide, crash into car

2011-07-13 00:00

TWO men were seriously injured after two 10-ton tipper trucks collided head-on before overturning and smashing into a light motor vehicle on the M37 near Amanzimtoti yesterday.

Netcare 911 paramedics, the fire department and police arrived on the scene to find the crumpled remains of a truck and the car obstructing the roadway. The truck had lost its load of sand and diesel from its fuel tank.

Paramedics found the drivers of the car and truck at the side of the road with serious injuries. They stabilised them and took one of the men to the Netcare Kingsway hospital and the other to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi.

In a separate accident on the same road earlier yesterday 15 people were injured when a mini-bus taxi collided with a light motor vehicle.

Reports indicate that the taxi, while crossing the M37, struck the side of a car coming out of the Southgate industrial park.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire department found the seriously injured driver of the car still trapped in the wreckage.

Fourteen passengers from the taxi escaped with only minor injuries.

The injured woman driver was taken to the Netcare Kingsway hospital for medical attention while the taxi passengers were taken to a local hospital.
