An amusing take on Shakespeare classics

2012-06-12 00:00

WHETHER or not you know your Hamlet from your King Lear, your Midsummer Night’s Dream from your Tempest, you’ll love The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspre (Abri-dged)!, which is at the Seabrooke’s Theatre at Durban High School from today until June 22.

Directed by Peter Court, the Actors Unemployed Company, who’ve enjoyed successful runs with this show at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and the Witness Hilton Arts Festival, will be racing through all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in just 90 minutes.

Adam Dore, Marc Kay and Clinton Small treat audiences to a lisping Romeo, Titus Andronicus as a cooking show, the history plays as a rugby game and Hamlet done in a whole new way in this fabulously funny show. Having seen it myself, I guarantee you’ll be rolling in the aisles.

Showtimes are 7.30 pm nightly, and at 2.30 pm on Sunday.

Tickets are R75 (R50 for pupils, pensioners and block bookings), and can be booked through Seabrookes Theatre at 031 277 1570, or through Marc Kay at 072 435 8725 or bought at the door.
