Annual “Kids to the Sea” project

THE Margate Round Table hosted its annual “Kids to the Sea” project last week, which ended yesterday.

For over 20 years the project has seen children from safe houses who have lost contact with their parents come to the South Coast and enjoy a week-long holiday.

This year, seven boys and a girl arrived from Johannesburg and spent Sunday to Friday staying at a house in Margate with their house mother and two Round Tablers.

The children were treated to activities such us going out to sea with a charter boat company, visiting Pure Venom snake park and watching a fire engine display.

The chairperson of the Margate Round Table, James Jones, told The Witness that the event is probably the highlight of the Round Table year.

“For us it is absolutely amazing,” said Jones.

“These kids have never even been on a holiday, let alone the sea. Seeing the smiles on their faces during the past week shows us that the event initiative was a success and that the programme will continue to flourish.” — WR.
