Another 3 die in KZN drownings

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) was kept busy at the weekend with many incidents along the KZN coastline.

At Port Edward on Saturday, a rescue craft was launched to recover the body of a man found offshore of Port Edward by fishermen, said NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon.

On the Day of Goodwill (Boxing Day) the unidentified male, believed to be in his twenties, went missing and was presumed to have drowned, despite attempts to rescue him in big surf.

The body was recovered by NSRI Port Edward and handed over to police who are investigating the case.

At Zinkwazi Beach on Saturday, the Vodacom Netcare 911 surf rescue helicopter and Netcare 911 paramedics were summoned to a drowning in progress in the lagoon. Despite extensive efforts to resuscitate an eight-year-old child, she was declared dead on the scene, said Lambinon.

On Friday a 15-year-old boy went missing at Umdloti. There has been no sign of him, but police are continuing the search.
