Another tough match for College

2012-06-02 00:00

THE second term is winding down and with it the major winter sports season.

Just three hockey matches remain for the majority of schools. Maritzburg College were given a tough run against Westville last Saturday and today they play Kearsney and can expect another tough game. While College are the top-ranked side in the province, they can be vulnerable, particularly when their game plan does not come to fruition. They have lost two matches against Wynberg and Pretoria BHS. Kearsney have lost one match against Dale, but both are unbeaten in the province.

St Charles have a busy weekend as yesterday they played against Clifton and today they meet Westville. Complacency could be the danger today with Westville. They have arguably their best team ever and they have posted some impressive results. St Charles, however, have nothing to lose and, after their close game against College last week, their confidence will be high and they could again surprise.

The match in Durban between Northwood and Michaelhouse will be another very keenly contested match. Michaelhouse were the only Midland’s side to play in the Durban night series when Northwood beat Glenwood in the final.

Hilton have probably the easiest task when they host DHS. The latter have not had a happy season having lost most of their matches. However, they have never been overwhelmed and their fortunes could change. The home side has also had a number of close losses and after their rest last weekend will be keen to finish the season well, winning the last few games.
