Armed suspects held

Acting on a tip off, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Organised Crime Unit nabbed four would-be robbers in Kokstad on Thursday.

The armed robbers were ready to rob a security company on the back streets of the small town when police pitched up. Police spokesman Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said the police had received "an intelligence tip off".

"A security plan to prevent the robbery was executed. However, the suspects spotted the police when they arrived on the scene. They immediately opened fire towards the police, who returned fire."

One of the suspects was injured and a security guard was also wounded during the shootout. Mdunge said four suspects were arrested on the scene and a 7,65 mm pistol was recovered.

The targeted company was the Be-Sure Security Services on Hawthorn road.
