POLICE are questioning two suspects in connection with the rape and murder of Janet van der Walt (60) earlier this month in the South Coast town of Margate.

Van der Walt’s sister Koekie Stander (69) was present at the time her sister was stabbed to death. She had tried to drag her sister to safety, but the suspect pulled her out of her grip.

Van der Walt was a retired SARS auditor.

“We confirm that two suspects have been arrested regarding the murder and rape, but they have not yet been charged,” said police spokesperson Captain Mfeka.

He said the suspects have been linked to other incidents and have been charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, kidnapping and robbery in the other matters.

The assault and robbery took place in Masinenge.
