Arson: ‘ANC will not relent in taking action

2011-06-23 00:00

ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala revealed the ANC had instituted disciplinary action against previous deputy mayor Alpha Shelembe following his implication on the June 11 burning down of the ANC’s Moses Mabhida regional offices.

“We are not going to relent in taking action against anyone who might have been involved in burning the ANC regional offices. The ANC will continue to deal with all challenges facing the region with the intention of building a much stronger and better organisation,” Zikalala said.

The KZN SA Communist Party boss, Themba Mthembu, yesterday said Shelembe’s resignation from the council and his withdrawal from all his ANC positions should serve as a warning to all those who are protecting individuals implicated in corruption.

“The SACP believes that Shelembe’s case has been an eye-opener to the public to the depth of corruption problems facing the (President) Jacob Zuma administration, which he said manifested in “people who harbour and protect individuals who are implicated in serious issues of corruption”. Mthembu called on all the other people implicated in corruption in uMsunduzi to do “the honourable thing and resign.”
