Visa in partnership with Absa have launched the Visa Olympics of the Imagination (VOI) art competition. VOI is an international art programme created for children aged 10-14 to learn about the Olympic Movement while participating in an artistic competition. The winner, as well as guardian, from each country will have the opportunity to attend the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as a guest of Visa.

VOI has been designed to teach children about the goals, ideals and history of the Olympic Games while exercising their imaginations. Entries should: “show how the Olympic Games connect different cultures and capture the Beijing theme — One World, One Dream”. All art submitted, either traditional two-dimensional or computerised electronic drawings, should be centred around the global unity of the Olympic Games.

Visa will be taking 30 children from 18 countries to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Trinity Sessions, a leading South African contemporary art production team, will run workshops to at selected schools in the three major centres around South Africa. The workshops will help the children produce a work that is representative of the One World, One Dream theme. Final judging will be conducted by a panel that will choose 50 finalists, whose artwork will be exhibited at the final gala event. The 10 best artists, the top national digital student and the teacher with the highest number of students in the top 50 will all win pre-loaded Absa Visa Gift Cards. The school of the overall winner will win R10 000.

Entries close on April 6, and all entries should include a short written description of why the art relates to the unity of the Olympic theme of One World, One Dream. Visa would like to make a public call for entries to all children in South Africa between the ages of 10 and 14, which can be sent to Visa Olympics of the Imagination Competition.
