Assailant: ‘I was a victim’

2009-11-13 00:00

THE assailant in the midst of the fracas that ended with senior Msunduzi Municipality official Rishi Ramharak in hospital claims he snapped after months of victimisation by senior staffers.

He believes this could be the case because of his close relationship with municipal manager Rob Haswell as well as his good work record and the extensive contacts that he has built up.

The assailant cannot be named at this stage because the matter is being investigated by the police.

He said the incident reported in yesterday’s newspaper happened after Ramharak refused to sign his time sheets, therefore denying him his salary, which he desperately needed because he has dependants.

He denied beating Ramharak, claiming that he only pushed him against a steel filing cabinet.

The assailant called The Witness yesterday morning to give his side of the story.

“… I want to record my apologies to him [Rob Haswell] and his family for dragging their name through the mud.”

“… I am not aggressive by nature, but the circumstances I was put through pushed me to my limit and I reacted on the spur of the moment” he said.
