Assault alleged: traffic cop in court

2013-02-22 00:00

A MSUNDUZI traffic inspector has appeared in court for the alleged assault of a scholar patrol officer who wore a traffic officer’s uniform while on duty.

Gonas Moodley is alleged to have assaulted Max Brown in his offices in Washington Road earlier this month. He appeared in court yesterday and the case was adjourned to March 20.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan confirmed that police were investigating two cases in which Brown had allegedly been assaulted.

Moodley is not implicated in the other case.

Municipal spokesperson Brian Zuma said the scholar patrol officer had been wearing the uniform of a traffic officer contrary to instructons and when he was placed under arrest he claimed he had been assaulted.

Zuma said the municipality supplied scholar patrol officers with white coats, reflector jackets and stop signs.

“If they are wearing traffic officer uniforms they are deceiving the public … they are not allowed to do that.”
