At Macs during August

2008-07-29 00:00

DURING August, the Midlands Arts and Crafts Society (Macs) will continue with its July exhibitions — in the café gallery is work by Macs teachers using various media and in the 3D gallery, Treasures and Trifles continues with items for sale. It is worth browsing as new items are being added.

On Mondays (August 4, 11 and 18) Penny Forder teaches drawing and painting and on August 25 there will be a figure-drawing class with a model. This is a tutored class to learn more about life drawing.

On August 19, there will be a monthly Tuesday painters forum with Jinny Heath, for painters (and designers) of some experience who would like a forum in which to show and discuss their most recent work or work-in-progress with like-minded people. On July 29 and August 5, 12 and 26, there is a beginners’ drawing course with Penny Forder. This is an intensive course designed to make you draw and think like an artist.

The interactive Wednesday art club continues on Wednesday mornings, and Creative Thursdays this month will concentrate on freestyle machine embroidery, catering for people at all levels of experience, though you have to be on good speaking terms with your sewing machine.

Wild Knitting Saturdays are on August 2 and August 16 and on the same days Penny Forder will offer her beginners’ drawing course again. On August 23 and August 30 there will be an introduction to freestyle machine embroidery with Jutta Faulds and also on August 30, in the afternoon, Clare Smith will hold a workshop on making flat felt using the wet-felting method.
