Attack: men try to strangle cabbie

2009-08-10 00:00

TWO men allegedly tried to strangle a taxi driver before they drove off with his vehicle on Saturday night, leaving him stranded in the Grange.

According to a police report, Musawenkosi Mazibuko (38) was sitting in his metered taxi, a blue Toyota Conquest, in Retief Street in the city centre when he was approached by two men at around 10.20 pm.

“The men then asked Mazibuko to take them to the Grange,” said police spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram.

“On arrival at White Road, one of them asked Mazibuko to stop the vehicle for them to climb out.”

Upon stopping, one of the men attacked the taxi driver, grabbing him around the neck, while the other searched him.

Mazibuko freed himself, jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, said Budhram.

“While fleeing, he heard his vehicle drive away.”

No arrests have yet been made.
