Attacked at home by gunmen

“THEY would have shot me if I hadn’t let go of the bag,” said Doreen Clark. The gun was pointing straight at her.

Clark (56), from Athlone, was at the gate of her sister’s house in King Edward Avenue in Scottsville yesterday when two unknown men approached her and threw her to the ground.

“They pointed a firearm at me and the domestic worker who was opening the gate for me, and took my car with all my belongings. This happened a few hours after I had just read in The Witness about the woman who was shot during a hijacking.”

She was getting ready to take her sister, Mary Potter, to a doctor at about 9.30 am yesterday when the gunmen struck.

Domestic worker Ida Mzila, who was at the gate, said Clark parked the car and hooted for them to open.

“She alighted from the car and placed a plant in front of the gate and I took the plant. She returned to the car to get her handbag when the two men … [appeared], throwing her to the ground. They pointed a firearm at her and me as they took off with her car,” said Mzila.

Clark said all her bank and shopping cards, with her identity document, were in the car.

She said she couldn’t believe what had happen to her. “I feel terrible and the doctor gave me an injection to calm me down. I can’t believe that someone could do this kind of thing to someone.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said they are investigating a case of hijacking. No arrests have been made.

The attackers took a VW Polo Classic, registration NP 66679. Jeevan appealed to anyone with information to contact Alexandra Road police station.
