Audit: distressing, says opposition

DA caucus leader Bill Lambert said: “We are very distressed at the way this city has been so badly shown up by this damning report. The points raised by the AG are all issues that the DA has been bringing to the attention of council and officials throughout the year.”

Lambert said the report is not good in terms of sound corporate governance, and the DA will study it more thoroughly and give a considered opinion.

IFP caucus leader Dolo Zondi said his party notes the report with great regret.

“After two consecutive financial years of doing very well, in the third year we get this report. The municipal manager still owes us an explanation as to where … it all [went] wrong. He’s hiding something. If he’s being pressured by the ruling party, he must tell us. He always says the buck stops with him, so he must answer the questions …”
