Augusta is anyone’s to win

2015-04-11 00:00

IT’S Masters weekend and 98 of the best golfers from past and present are battling it out at Augusta where they are seeking the coveted green jacket.

Thursday’s opening round saw a surprise from a South African perspective in Ernie Els firing a five under par 68 to finish the day tie second. But the name on everybody’s lips was 21-year-old Jordan Spieth, who found himself three shots clear at the top of the leaderboard with three rounds to play.

Tiger Woods, meanwhile, playing his first tournament since February, stuttered his way to a one over par 73 as his best golf still seemed far out of reach. Class, as they say, is permanent and Woods would have been backing himself to turn it around yesterday.

Due to the time difference, Weekend Witness could not publish any results after yesterday’s second round. So, instead, here are some of the guys who stole the show on Thursday.
