Award: city Shoe Company Excels

2007-12-06 00:00

Eddels Shoes in Pietermaritzburg recently received the KZN Clothing and Textile Cluster’s Best Practice Award in recognition of the company’s ability to survive and practise world class manufacturing in a competitive and deeply challenging sector.

The difficulties faced in this sector, relating particularly to the influx of direct imports from the East, have been well documented.

The organisation received particular recognition for breaking new ground in lean manufacturing and for truly embracing the philosophy of continuous improvement.

The concept of lean production now represents one of the key aspects of the operations at Eddels. Celebrating the achievement are (from left) Annan Kistappa (production manager), Jonathan Singh (systems development manager), Joanna Sewdayal (quality manager), Mark Vennes (production director) and Samad Sheik (prep manager).
