BBC offers line-up of World War 2 stories

SEVENTY years since the start of World War 2 on September 1, 1939, BBC Knowledge (channel 251 on DSTV) presents two weeks of programming revealing new perspectives on the war and its impact from the people who experienced it first-hand.

Starting today at 8.30 pm, Hitler’s Bodyguard gives a closer insight into the life of the Führer through one of his closest collaborators — his bodyguard.

Airing over five consecutive days from Monday, August 31 at 8.30 pm, The Diary of Anne Frank re-creates the lives of the inhabitants in the secret annexe in Amsterdam.

There is also The Last Nazis (September 1-3 at 10 pm) andWorld War 2: Behind Closed Doors (August 24-28 at 8.30 pm).

Other programmes being screened include:

• Secret Missions of the SAS — August 25-28 at 8.30 pm);

• Colour of War II: The British Story — August 25-28 at 9.30 pm and August 29 at 8.30 pm;

• Days that Shook The World: Pearl Harbour — August 29 at 9.20 pm;

• Days That Shook The World: Kristallnacht — August 29 at 10.20 pm;

• Colour of War 3: The American Story — August 30 at 8.30 pm;

• Days That Shook The World: Battle of Midway — August 30 at 10.10 pm;

• Nuremberg — August 31 to September 4 at 9 pm;

• Auschwitz: The Final Solution — August 31 to September 2 at 10 pm;

• Days That Shook The World: Hitler’s Last Years — 10 pm on September 3; and

• Days That Shook The World: Hitler’s Diaries — September 4 at 10 pm.
