Baby Boks: six KZN players named in training squad for World Championships in France

CAPE TOWN — Six players from KwaZulu-Natal are among the 34 players named yesterday for the latest South Africa U20 training camp in preparation for the IRB Junior World Championship in France in June.

The six are scrumhalves Hanco Venter and Stefan Ungerer, flyhalf Robert du Preez, centre Tyler Fisher prop Marné Coetzee and hooker Morné du Plessis.

The Baby Boks will defend the title won in South Africa in 2012.

The camp, to be held in Stellenbosch from January 14 to 27, will include trials and friendly matches against the universities of the Western Cape, Stellenbosch and Cape Town.

Said head coach Dawie Theron: “This is a very important camp for us. We need to settle on a squad … We will also have to settle on our game plan once we have a clear understanding of our playing personnel.”
