Bad light ruins day, but Inland are in a strong position

2010-10-16 00:00

DESPITE bad light preventing much of yesterday’s play at the Maritzburg Oval, KZN Inland are still in a strong position going into the final day of the Provincial Three-Day Challenge against last season’s runners-up the Highveld Strikers.

However, the scheduled second day’s play in the match between KZN Coastal and last season’s champions, Eastern Province, was once again decimated by bad weather in Empangeni, leaving two days gone without a ball having been bowled.

Inland, with a first innings total of 295 and at 26 for one in their second innings, lead the Strikers by 157 runs with nine wickets intact, this after they dismissed the lads from Gauteng for 164 in their first dig. Inland skipper Kyle Nipper troubled the Strikers with his left-arm spin and new man Manny Mkhize’s exemplary medium-pace seam and swing teased the batters into nibbling outside the off-stump, wicketkeeper Chad Barron pouching five catches in the innings. Both Nipper and Mkhize missed out on hat-tricks.

Weather permitting, the 40-over matches take place tomorrow.
