Basketball: Midlands U18 selected

2009-09-22 00:00

THERE were only two local basketball games this week and it was a game Clifton that nearly upset Maritzburg College, with the latter winning 38-32. The other match was between Voortrekker and Alexandra.

After almost giving up basketball, Voortrekker have taken the decision to include it as a sport in their calendar in the future. Their first match was against MCS which they won narrowly 14-12. On Saturday the match was against Alex and as they have not beaten Alex for 10 years, they were overjoyed with a close 23-21 win.

After a series of trials a Midlands U18 team was selected in both the boys’ and girls’ sections. The boys’ squad comprises five players each from Michaelhouse and St Charles. In the girls’ team the majority of players are from Pietermaritzburg Girls High.
