Basketball: St Charles galvanised into action

2010-02-16 00:00

ONLY one report was received from basketball last week and it was St Charles that had an exciting game against Hilton. Durban High Schoool, with a comprehensive victory against Michaelhouse, still appear to be the top side in the province.

The first three-quarters of the game between visitors Hilton and St Charles saw the defences of both teams dominating. Hilton had nudged into the lead by a basket at the end of the third quarter.

This galvanised St Charles into action and they became less cautious with daring passes that worked. Shots at goal increased as did the enthusiasm of the supporters. St Charles took back the lead they had held in the early stages and with a minute remaining were 33-30 in front. Ulli Fischer scored one further basket from a double penalty, which gave the home side a 34-30 win. Tux Khumalo had a great game for the winners.

St Charles 34, Hilton 30; DHS 85, Michaelhouse 29, Kearsney 67, Westville 50; Clifton 19, Maritzburg College 38.
