Bats in your ceiling? If so, get involved in bat research!

2011-08-03 00:00

Research is being conducted at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on roosting preferences of insectivorous bats in and around Durban. These are the small bats that you may hear or see flying around street lights at night. A number of species roost (live) in buildings in and around Durban. As part of the research, we would like to update the records of the different species and numbers of bats roosting in buildings in the area.

Your help can assist us in updating the records of the different species and numbers found in the area.

How can you help? Firstly, you can make an important contribution to this study by contacting us and reporting roosts on your property. We will require the following information:

• Your name

• Address

• Contact details (cell phone number; email address)

We would be interested in visiting your house to determine the species of bat roosting in your ceiling, as well as numbers of bats. You may also use this opportunity to ask for advice on problems that you may be experiencing or to ask questions that you may have regarding the bats.

If you are keen to contribute to this research project, please contact Dr Joy Coleman either telephonically or by email (see details below).
