Beach buggy: Two die in crash

2011-12-05 00:00

TWO men travelling in a beach buggy were killed on the road between Port Shepstone and Murchison on Saturday evening after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the men were travelling on the fast lane of the road next to a truck.

“The driver of the beach buggy allegedly lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the front wheel of the truck and ended up on the embankment.”

The buggy than skidded back onto the road and got caught between the truck and its trailer. “The buggy was dragged a couple of metres before the truck came to a stop,” she said.

Both men in the buggy died at the accident scene. No one else was injured.

“There identification will be done today. We suspect that they could be locals as they were travelling in an NPS-registered vehicle,” Wiid said.

Two cases of culpable homicide are being investigated.
