Beaches: South Coast scores high

2009-11-21 00:00

KWAZULU-NATAL south coast beaches are among the country’s most popular, according to Kulula airline, with Margate and Amanzimtoti placing second overall.

On top of the list is Western Cape’s Stillbaai. spokeswoman Tessa Kidd said the airline’s beach index survey rates 14 popular beach destinations and measures costs common to summer holidays, including the price of beach-front accommodation, a meal of fish & chips, beer, and a round of golf.

“The index was created to help guide South Africans in search of budget-friendly breaks during summer. The destinations were split into three main categories and were scored ratings on cheapness.”

The top seven are in the “budget nibblers” category, popular for being cheap and cheerful.

The next five fall under the “cash knickers” category described as moderately priced.

The bottom two are the expensive“rand gluttons” for the larneys. The Western Cape’s Camps Bay is first from the bottom for its exorbitant prices.
