Beer: Varsity brewing competition

2008-07-31 00:00

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and South African Breweries (SAB) have proved learning can be fun by hosting South Africa’s first inter-university beer-brewing competition.

The event will take place on August 9 at the School of Chemistry on the Pietermaritzburg campus.

The competition is the brainchild of Ben Lamaletie, senior trade brewer at SAB, who put forward the idea of universities having microbreweries.

UKZN campuses specialising in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology and Microbiology will test their skills against teams from five other South African universities with microbreweries, including the University of Cape Town and the University of Witwatersrand.
