Benefits: Plan ahead to join 2010 bonanza — MEC

2008-10-12 00:00

Residents of the Umgungundlovu District should start preparing for 2010 now so that they will be able to play successful hosts to the visitors from the 32 nations that will be playing in the World Cup, said Local Government MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu.

He said fan parks can be exploited by ordinary citizens. “The fan parks will be utilised by those people who will not be able to attend the games. There are micro businesses attached to fan parks such as braaing, selling food and beverages that interested people can exploit,” said Mabuyakhulu.

He said people who want to start fan parks must come forward and ask about how to get these programmes off the ground. He said another way for residents to make money is to open up their homes for visitors during 2010, because apart from the matches, visitors also want to see how South Africans live.
