Benni set to join Pirates

JOHANNESBURG — Benni McCarthy is set to pen a deal with Orlando Pirates soon.

The former Bafana Bafana striker was present at this past weekend’s Black Label Carling Cup between Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

“I have spoken to the Pirates management and hope to conclude a deal with the club in the next two days. I am very excited,” McCarthy said.

Pirates’ management are tightlipped about the prospect of signing the 33-year-old striker, however, would not deny that they are about to pen a deal.

Bafana Bafana’s all-time top goalscorer had been training with Ajax Cape Town and was expected to join the Urban Warriors for the new season.

It now seems that the only South African player to have ever won the UEFA Champions League will be donning the black and white jersey for the 2011/12 campaign. —Sport24.
