Benoni’s study in contrasts

2011-07-02 00:00

THEY are blondes from Benoni. Both hot topics in the media, tall, beautiful, and famous with very similar-sounding names.

Where they differ, though, is that the former Charlene Wittstock is busy with day two of her wedding and Charlize Theron never wants to marry.

Wittstock now has the title of Princess Charlene of Monaco after yesterday’s civil ceremony and will tie the knot in a religious ceremony later today. She and Prince Albert II are Monaco’s new royal couple.

Theron, said in an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan on Thursday that she has never really felt the need to marry. The Academy award-winning Hollywood actress said in the past that she would not marry until gay people were allowed to wed legally. New York State legalised gay marriage last month, but Theron said she still won’t walk down the aisle.

Marriage is a “divine right” but not one she will use. She believes American federal law should legalise gay marriage nationwide.

Theron has been in long-term relationships in the past, most recently for 10 years with actor Stuart Townsend.

She told Morgan she wants a long-term relationship, but without the ceremony, and treats her relationships as if they were marriages anyway.

Wittstock and Prince Albert were married despite the past week’s rumours that she booked a one-way flight to South Africa after hearing that the prince had fathered another illegitimate child.

The Monaco palace, Wittstock’s parents and friends all dismissed the rumours.

Her former swimming coach Wayne Riddin, who is in Monaco, told Weekend Witness that she went with her mother to Paris for a fitting, as her father Mike had said.
