‘Big Brother’: Capetonian the star

2012-08-07 00:00

AFTER being inspired to enter Big Brother Stargame by his best friend and Big Brother housemate, Lee Stemmet, Keagan Petersen emerged as the winner of this year’s competition.

After 91 days of ups and downs, the intern manager from Cape Town couldn’t quite believe he would be heading back to the Mother City with a cheque for $300 000 (about R2,45 million).

Petersen had a nervous wait as one by one the remaining housemates — Kyle Kushaba (a Ugandan journalist and television presenter), Talia Hayward (a Zambian graphic designer and musician), Wati Kulemeka, a Malawian architecture designer, Nambian musician Lady May and Kenyan musician Prezzo — were voted off.

The South African could not believe it when his name was called out, first holding his head in his hands and then pacing about the lounge.

When he entered the DStv reality show he revealed that it was Stemmet who had inspired him to take part. The two men believed their 18-year friendship would help them cope with the pressures of being in the house.

Petersen plans to invest some of his winnings to help him in the future, to give some cash to a charity and to help some of his family members.

He would also like to do more travelling, saying that while he adores Cape Town, he would like to explore other countries in Africa. — Arts Editor.
