Big screens will be magnets, staff will get their breaks

2011-09-10 00:00

RUGBY fans are expected to head early to pubs this weekend (and maybe through the week) as Rugby World Cup games kick-off in the mornings, South African time.

The Springboks vs Wales game kicks off at 10.30 am tomorrow.

Big screens such as the one at the Liberty Midlands Mall, and the one at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, which will also be hosting tomorrow’s East Coast Radio spring concert, will be magnets for fans.

Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Andrew Layman said yesterday many companies have embraced Bok Friday, and staff have enthusiastically showed off their colours at work. He said leeway will be given to staff who wish to take lunch or tea breaks during match times.

Popular venues in Pietermaritzburg that are expecting huge fan turnouts to watch games on screen are the Keg & Hedgehog, the Kick & Whistle, Diamond Lounge in the Golden Horse Casino and The Butchery.

Those eager to follow the event but who can’t get time off work can tune in to 97.9FM where full commentary for most of the games will be carried.

SuperSport is televising all the games, the latest of which starts at 10.30 am.
