Big test for KZN Inland

2007-11-15 00:00

The bulk of the players have had little club cricket over the past

fortnight, while EP come off four days of first-class cricket against Border.

History is on the men from Port Elizabeth's side, too.

In the three-day competition last season they finished top of the coastal section to Inland's fourth, while the one-day arena saw EP fourth to Inland's fifth.

And in Port Elizabeth last season, EP hammered Inland by 187 runs in the three-dayer and five wickets in the limited-over match.

In their last encounter a month ago, Inland scraped a draw against visitors Boland and lost the one-dayer by two wickets in a display that smacked of under-performance.

In those two matches the only Inland players who performed anywhere near their potential were batsmen Brad Moses and Clint Bowyer, and bowlers Qasim Khurshid and captain Andre van Vuuren.

A whole lot more is needed over the next four days if the side is not to stumble once again.

It's time to step up to the challenge if this region's senior team has any serious pretensions rather than vague pipedreams of winning this competition and graduating to cricket at franchise level one day.

•The three-day match is followed by Sunday's 45-over encounter. Play starts at 9.30 am.
