Bike week takes over Shelly Centre

THE 2011 Africa Bike Week — which starts on Thursday — will culminate with a mass-ride on Sunday.

The ride sets out from Shelly Centre, with the line-up departing at 10.30 am. Each Africa Chapter is led by their a flag bearers.

The parade is the highlight of the event, allowing spectators to experience the sound and spectacle of thousands of motorbikes bikes descending on Margate. There will be many vantage points along the route to watch the bikers sweep by.

Motorist are advised to get to these vantage positions early, as the roads will be closed from 10 am for about two hours.

THE parade will take the following route on Sunday:

• From rooftop parking area turn right into Beach Road

• Turn right into Marine Drive (R620)

• At Port Shepstone, turn right onto the R102 into Port Shepstone CBD

• Turn left into Bazley Street

• Turn right into Connor Street

• Turn left into Reynolds Street

• Turn right into Escombe Street

• Turn right into Aiken Street

• Turn Right onto the R102 heading South and out of Port Shepstone

• Keep left, turning onto the R620 heading south towards Shelly Beach

• Travel along the R620 to Margate, past the police station.

• After 1,5 km, turn left onto Marine Drive.

Bikers approach the Harley village from the south.

• On arrival at Harley-Davidson Hotel, turn right into Harley-Davidson Street

• Travel through the Tennessee Market and H-D Village to Finnis Road.

• At the Finnis Road/Marine Drive intersection turn right into Marine Drive, heading north towards the Margate CBD

• Begin parking on left hand side of Marine Drive from the Harley-Davidson Hotel southwards
