Bizarre: up a pole, down the drain

2009-12-04 00:00

IN a bizarre accident, two minibus taxies collided and one ended up halfway up a lamppost, while the other plummeted into a stormwater drain, in Springfield Park, Durban, yesterday morning.

Stormwater rose up above the wheels and the driver sat inside the vehicle for more than 30 minutes, apparently fearing to get his feet wet, said Netcare911 spokesman Jeff Wicks. “Eventually, he was coaxed from the floundering taxi” and taken to hospital. The driver of the other taxi perched on the pole managed to jump out without injuries.
