Body of Northdale man found lying in donga

2014-08-25 00:00

THE body of a Northdale man was found facedown in a five-metre-deep donga near the Olympia Weighbridge on Saturday.

A passer-by discovered 48-year-old Kenny “Lawyer” Pema’s body.

His sister, Pam Pema, described him as a loving and caring brother. “The family will dearly miss him. He loved his family and supported them,” said Pam.

Kenny was working at Preformed Line Products as a machine operator. Although the circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear, it is believed Kenny fell about five metres down the donga into the water on Saturday night.

Residents next to the donga said they did not hear anything in the night.

Acting station commander at the Mountain Rise police station, Colonel Chris Wiles, confirmed they have opened an inquest docket.

• Pietermaritzburg police have found three bodies in the past two weeks which have still not been identified. One is a vagrant whose body was found under the bridge in Roberts Road; one body was found near the corner of Peter Kerchhoff Street and Victoria Road; and a third was found floating in the Duzi River.

Midlands police spokesperson Captain Zenzele Ndlovu said Alexandra Road police are appealing for information regarding the identity of the homeless man, only known as Mbhele, whose body was found in bushes on Alan Paton Avenue on May 22.

• Police are also searching for the family of Lindelani Aaron Khomo.

“Police preliminary investigation indicated that he used to reside in Inchanga West, Inchanga Drive.

On May 26, he was found dead behind the Maritzburg College rugby fields in College Road.
