Boland beat KZN Inland twice

BOLAND made it back-to-back victories when they beat KZN Inland by four wickets with nine balls left in the Provincial Challenge 40-over match at the Maritzburg Oval yesterday.

The Bolanders had wrapped up the three-day match by 77 runs on Saturday after Inland put up a good fight in their second innings.

Yesterday, Inland made 196 for six in their 40 overs before Boland replied with 200 for six in 38,3 overs. Tyler Lortan (18) had a wonderful first-class debut after being brought in at the last minute, top-scoring for Inland in both innings (33 and 77) of the three-dayer and then again in the 40-over match (62).

Inland have a three-week break until they host KZN Coastal and it gives them time to take stock as well as giving players knocking on the door the chance to impress in club matches.

In Durban, Matthew Hulett (19) hit a ton to set up KZN Coastal’s 40-over victory against Griquas at Chatsworth. The three-day match was drawn.


40-over:KZN Inland 196/6 in 40 overs (T Lortan 62, K Nipper 36, N Hendrie 29*). Boland 200/6 in 38.3 overs (G Stevens 49, L Walters 49*). Boland won by 4 wkts. Points: KZN Inland 0 Boland 4.

At Chatsworth: KZN Coastal 214/7 in 40 ov (M Hulett 109*, M Alexander 60; A Swanepoel 3-37). Griquas 154 in 35.1 ov (C Pietersen 31; K Eccles 3-28, A Razak 3-30). KZN Coastal won by 60 runs. Points: KZN Coastal 4 Griquas 0.

Three-day: Boland 1st inn 364/6 dec. KZN Inland 1st inn 143. Boland 2nd inn 151/2 dec. KZN Inland 2nd inn 295 (T Lortan 77, B Barends 58, K Chetty 43; J Louw 4-70). Boland won by 77 runs. Points: KZN Inland 4.86 Boland 20.28.

At Chatsworth: KZN Coastal 1st inn 330/6. Griquas 1st inn 290/8. KZN Coastal 2nd inn 222/4 dec (K Zondo 40, C Delport 44, M Hulett 51, N Govender 54*). Griquas 2nd inn 81/2. Match drawn. Points: KZN Coastal 9.60 Griquas 7.80.
