Bottoms-up: Disgruntled man to try to drink record number of glasses of cool drink

2013-01-11 00:00

A MAN who became unhappy after his “bottomless” cool drink at an eatery in Three Rivers, Vereeniging, dried up after the seventh glass, has now accepted a challenge to set a new Vaal Triangle record for drinking the most glasses of fizzy drink.

After making headlines with his bottoms-up complaint on Wednesday, Hennie Wolmarans of Vaalpark, near Sasolburg, yesterday accepted a dare from Len Muller, owner of the Wimpy in Arconpark, Vereeniging, to try and find the bottom in their bottomless offer.

Muller explained that the most refills for an individual at his franchise was between nine and 10 glasses. Come Tuesday next week, Wolmarans will attempt to set a new record from 2  pm.

In December, Wolmarans felt cheated when staff at another eatery told him the seven glasses of cream soda he had drunk in 90 minutes was the bottom line in their bottomless offer. He said the waitress had told him he had drunk too much cool drink.

Muller said he had prepared for the challenge by buying 10 extra litres of cream soda syrup. He said if Wolmarans emptied a glass, he would get it refilled each time he asks for it.

“He can sit for five hours if he wants to, or come back the next morning,” Muller said.

He must drink the cool drink himself and may not share.

Comments on the Beeld Facebook page yesterday were split between those who thought seven cool drinks was pushing it, and those who insisted that an advertising promise had to be kept.

One man asserted that no one thinks drinking seven beers at one event is strange.
