A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was shot and killed while trying to escape a robbery at his home.

Senzeni Derrick Mdakane was with his family in their house in the Kwathandi area near Ladysmith on Saturday evening when three gunman knocked on the door before barging into the house.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said a scuffle broke out and the family managed to push the suspects out of the house and barricaded the door.

The family then heard gunshots after which the suspects fled.

Little did they realise that Senzeni had escaped from the house during the scuffle and was shot by the suspects.

“The SAPS are investigating the whereabouts of the suspects,” said Zwane.
