‘Break moaning habit’

2008-01-15 00:00

SOUTH Africans are encouraged to stop complaining for a period of 21 days in order to break the habit and to encourage a more positive country, as part of The Complaint Free World movement.

The worldwide movement, initiated by Reverand Will Bowen of Christ Church Unity, aims to stop people from complaining in order to enjoy happier relationships since “thoughts create reality and words indicate thoughts”.

Bowen says it is human nature to complain and we all do it.

To encourage his congregation to allow more positive thoughts to determine their reality, he challenged them to stop complaining, criticising or gossiping for 21 consecutive days, as three weeks is believed to be enough time to eliminate a bad habit.

The challenge is said to have exploded in popularity and, to date, over four million people wear purple bracelets associated with the movement.

When Bowen appeared on Oprah, he said he has seen positive results in the people who took on his challenge: “When they eradicated complaining in their lives, they truly became happier”. This is because “if you are not articulating the complaint, if your complaint has nowhere to go, your mind stops creating the complaint”.

O, the Oprah Magazine South Africa will assist in spreading the complaint-free philosophy by including a complimentary purple bracelet in the February issue.
