Buchan welcomes mighty crowd

“I don’t know how many of you are out there, I can’t see you, cause it’s dark,” said Angus Buchan last night as the chilly Greytown air swept across the three-metre high platform at his Mighty Men Conference.

“But I’ll see you tomorrow morning. And I’ll probably get the fright of my life.

“But you know what, this is a move of God. And He’s not interested in numbers.”

It truly is something to hear so many men saying “Amen”. It echoes across the surrounding landscape once, twice, three times.

Five farms have been opened up to accommodate the delegates and the landscape was abuzz with activity yesterday with an expected crowd of between 140 000 and 160 000, according to media spokesman Bruce Winship.

He said the MMC website has received 197 000 unqiue user visits since 9 am yesterday, and 970 000 hits. Website registrations totalled 52 800 campers and 11 000 day visitors.

“Obviously not everyone will register, but everyone is welcome, and some people decide at the last minute,” Winship said.

There were no major medical incidents to report, bar one suspected broken leg and one report of abdominal pains. Both men were escorted to hospital. The MMC has a dedicated medical tent on site.
