Bucs in talks with United for Bester

2011-07-07 00:00

IT appears increasingly likely that Maritzburg United will lose the exciting Rudolf Bester to Orlando Pirates — but not without being significantly compensated.

Bester, who is contractually bound to Maritzburg for another two years, angered club chairperson Farouk Kadodia when he attended a Pirates training session in Johannesburg on Monday.

In a letter written to Pirates, Kadodia demanded that Bester return to his club within 24 hours of the letter being received. This did not happen.

Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza had phoned Kadodia earlier this week and suggested a player swap between the clubs, but, according to Kadodia, the players Pirates were offering were not of the same calibre as Bester and negotiations ended.

That was until yesterday, when Khoza again contacted Kadodia.

“I had a call from the chairman and he was trying to see how we can best conduct a transfer deal,” said Kadodia. “If Pirates can come up with a worthy deal, then we will proceed with the negotiations.”

With Bester still having two years left on his current contract, Pirates will have to fork out a lot of money for the Namibian international. “All we can say is that Pirates have come to the party and are negotiating terms for the player,” said Kadodia.

The deal is expected to be wrapped up today.

“If we are unable to agree terms with Pirates then we still insist that the player return to Maritzburg,” said Kadodia.
